Alexis Pinturault Wins Men's World Cup Giant Slalom

Frenchman Captures First World Cup Points

Alexis Pinturault used a strong final run to win a men's World Cup giant slalom on Sunday in Garmisch. The Frenchman added the World Cup combined title to his gold medal in the combined at the 2019 World Championships.

Pinturault led a 1-2 finish with French teammate Mathieu Faivre in Sunday's giant slalom at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen World Cup. The win was Pinturault's fourth of the season and his 29th career World Cup victory.

"I knew that I had to ski fast on the second run to win today," said Pinturault. "I took some risks and it paid off. I'm really happy with the win."

Pinturault will be looking to add to his medal count at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He is a favorite to win the giant slalom and the combined, and he will also be a contender in the super-G and downhill.
